Real Escape from the Sex Trade (REST)

Description

Sex trafficking happens here. 2,000–3,000 women, men, and children are currently being exploited in the greater Seattle and King County area, and over half of them are homeless or in unstable housing. In 2018 over 700 individuals reached out to REST for services, hoping to find their path out of the sex trade.

Real Escape from the Sex Trade (REST) offers pathways to freedom, safety, and hope to individuals who have experienced the sex trade. Everyone deserves to be loved. Everyone deserves a life free from exploitation.

Several individuals at Cornerstone have gotten involved:
  • Lisa Siu is leading a virtual prayer night every 3rd Wednesday of the month.
  • I Fan and Crystal have been part of REST’s prayer team for a number of years. REST has a number of teams that gather monthly to pray for REST. During COVID the meetings have been suspended but they still send out monthly prayer letters, and are always looking for additional prayer partners.
  • Isaiah provided administrative help doing data organization/entry to help REST gather stats to apply for grants.
  • Pam volunteered at REST’s drop-in center, spending time befriending and assisting the clients.
  • Crystal helped out at REST’s fundraisers and also hosted a fundraiser at Cornerstone.

Volunteer

With the exception of joining the prayer team, most volunteer opportunities require attending the REST Training Day as a first step.

For most volunteer opportunities that involve direct service to the clients, there’s a greater need for women than men. But this should not deter men from learning more about the ways they can help.
